Phil Magallanes is a seasoned guitarist, composer, arranger, educator, and multi-instrumentalist with over fifty years of experience. An alum of the University of North Texas, where he earned a full scholarship, Phil has enjoyed an impressive career, working with renowned artists like Al Di Meola, Arturo Sandoval, Kenny Drew Jr., Lucky Peterson, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Brian Bromberg, Rick Braun, Gil Parris, Bakhithi Kumalo, Debbie Gibson, Engelbert Humperdinck, and Spyro Gyra.
Phil’s talents extend beyond performance; he founded the acclaimed Show Biz Kids, a 12-piece Steely Dan tribute band, and the jazz fusion group Phil’s Juke Joint, showcasing his arranging chops and meticulous attention to musical detail. He’s also a skilled guitar repair technician, having worked on guitars since 1980, offering students not just musical instruction but also expert advice on instrument care.
Phil’s educational background is equally impressive. He studied jazz improvisation with masters like Barry Harris, Hal Galper, Jon Faddis, Todd Coolman, Fred Lipsius, and Bob Hinz, further deepening his understanding and expertise in music.
