After graduating in 2008, she taught private piano and voice lessons and served as the Theater/Musical Director for Northbay Christian Academy. Her continuing education courses include Vocal Pedagogy I and II, Piano Pedagogy, and several voice and piano workshops. She completed training in acting, modeling and performance at The Bridge Training Academy, Atlanta hub in 2013.

Katie’s directing experience includes Oklahoma! The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Alice in Wonderland, Around the World in Eighty Days, and Peter Pan.  She has also produced and directed numerous reader’s theater, puppet, and skit productions and is the writer of three original pieces created in conjunction with the Dunedin Fine Arts Center troupe.

Katie’s vocal accomplishments include solo roles in several productions (Jane Eyre, the Musical: Grace Poole, Mrs. Reed; Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and Handel’s Messiah) as well as ensemble parts in Jane Eyre, the Musical, A Time for Christmas, and several opera scenes.  Katie is currently signed with Tate Music Group as a singer-songwriter, and will record her first original album in 2014.

Favorite Teaching Moment: When a student understands and accomplishes something they didn’t think they could.

Favorite Musical Experience: Seeing Wicked, The Musical. I’ve seen it twice and I can’t wait to go again!

Advice to Voice Students: All singers should make it a priority to learn to read music and at least elementary piano skills.

When Should Music Students Begin Voice Lessons? I recommend starting serious vocal study after the start of puberty (in girls) or after a complete voice change (in boys).

What is Your Musical Dream Role? Elphaba, the green witch from Wicked, The Musical.

At Tampa Bay Music Academy, we value excellence in teaching and performance, and that’s why we believe Katie will be a great fit for our team. Katie describes herself as a songwriter and performer with her own unique style. Katie’s desire to teach began in college when she worked as a music theory tutor. “I found that I had a way of explaining things that helped people grasp difficult concepts,” Katie told us.

Great performers do not always make great teachers, but Katie demonstrates the best of both. We know our students and their families will love her teaching style, her commitment to her students, and her passion for music.

Welcome to TBMA, Katie!
